Team USA Falls to Sweden, Dashing Gold Medal Hopes

Patrick Kane had three shots on goal in the team's loss

Team USA’s dreams of winning a world championship have been dashed as they were thumped 6-0 by Sweden in the semi-finals of the World Hockey Championships.

The Swedish team got a pair of goals from Nashville Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson, and goaltender Anders Nilsson was perfect as he stopped all 41 shots he faced in a drubbing of the American squad.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, who had eight goals and 11 assists coming into the game, was held off the scoresheet, managing just three shots on goal in the losing effort.

Defenseman Connor Murphy had a pair of shots, and Alex DeBrincat, who played a total of 13:37 in the game, had zero shots on goal.

The American squad had hoped to win its first championship in the event’s history, but they will instead have to settle for a bronze medal showdown with Canada on Sunday after the Canadian squad lost to Switzerland in the semifinal round.
