Blackhawks' Sharp Has Emergency Appendectomy

Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp had an emergency appendectomy Monday night and will miss two to three weeks of training camp, the team said.

The team's head physician, Dr. Michael Terry, said in a statement that Sharp underwent the procedure to have his appendix removed after experiencing "some abnormal abdominal discomfort."

The 29-year-old Thunder Bay, Ont., native last season had 34 goals and 37 assists.

He signed a five-year contract extention with Chicago last month.

The Blackhawks' first regular season game is Oct. 7 against the Dallas Stars.
