Chicago Blackhawks to Honor Stan Mikita With Ceremony, Jersey Patch

Mikita passed away earlier this summer after a long illness

The Chicago Blackhawks will honor legendary forward Stan Mikita with a pregame ceremony before their home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 7.

Mikita, who passed away earlier this summer, will also be honored by the team with a patch on their home and road jerseys, which will remain on the team’s chest throughout the season. The Blackhawks will also paint Mikita’s number “21” onto the ice behind both goals at the United Center this season.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at the home opener early to witness the ceremony.

The forward holds the Blackhawks records for most points and games played, and scored 541 goals in his Blackhawks career, the second-highest total of all time.
