Blackhawks Recall Dennis Gilbert From IceHogs

The Chicago Blackhawks were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday night, and as a result they will likely give some serious minutes to the club’s youngsters.

That theory gained some steam Wednesday as the team officially recalled defenseman Dennis Gilbert from the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. Gilbert, who was selected in the third round of the 2015 NHL Draft, was  a standout player at the University of Notre Dame, scoring six goals and dishing out 36 assists in 116 games with the Fighting Irish.

This season, Gilbert has scored five goals and racked up nine assists in 59 games with the IceHogs, and will likely make his NHL debut on Wednesday when the Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues at the United Center.

Puck drop for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will air on NBCSN.
