The Chicago Blackhawks have loaned defenseman Robin Norell to Djurgarden IF of the Swedish Hockey League, the team announced Thursday.

Norell, who was picked by the Blackhawks in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in 136 games over four seasons with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, racking up three goals and 15 assists in those contests.

With increased competition for playing time in Rockford, and with a glut of new defensive prospects like Adam Boqvist and Henri Jokiharju in the pipeline, it appears that Norell’s path to the NHL is blocked, and the move likely spells the end of his chances of making the team’s roster.
