The Chicago Blackhawks have liked what they’ve seen from goaltender Collin Delia so far this season, and on Monday they rewarded him with a new three-year contract extension.

Delia, who has a 6-2-3 record with a 2.98 goals against average in 12 games this season, will be paid an average of $1 million per season over the life of the deal, according to a press release issued by the Blackhawks.

Delia has largely served as a back-up goaltender to veteran Cam Ward this season. With Corey Crawford out of the mix, both netminders have gotten their fair share of action, and both have played well as the Blackhawks have climbed back into the playoff hunt.

Delia’s new contract is an indication that the team is looking to him to be a part of its future plans, as Ward will be a free agent at season’s end and Crawford’s contract expires after next season.

The Blackhawks will next be in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Boston Bruins.
