WATCH: Blackhawks Take Ice Bucket Challenge

Kane, who took the challenge after missing the 24-hour mark, said he will also make a donation to ALS research

Hockey players might be used the cold and ice, but some Chicago Blackhawks are taking to the ice for a new challenge—the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Patrick Kane, Andrew Shaw, Brandon Saad and even Coach Joel Quenneville dumped buckets of ice water over themselves as part of a campaign to raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The social media campaign is a viral movement that started in Massachusetts with former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012.

The challenge features people dumping buckets of ice cold water on themselves and challenging others to do so. Those challenged have 24 hours to accept otherwise they’re asked to donate to ALS research or a charity of their choice.

Kane, nominated by former NHL star Bill Guerin, took the challenge after missing the 24-hour mark and said he will also make a donation to research.

Kane nominated teammate Andrew Shaw, Adam Burish, who currently plays for the San Jose Sharks, and the Chicago Bulls’ Joakim Noah.

Shaw then took the challenge and nominated Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford and his brother Jason Shaw.

Coach Q also joined in, nominating Blackhawks CEO John McDonough, Assistant Coach Mike Kitchen and Dr. Mike Terry.

While the three made their challenges unique—with Kane including his hockey stick to mix the ice in, Shaw pretending to use a plastic cup then getting blasted with a bucket of water, and Quenneville using a large bin—we have to say, none of them made it to the epic level of NHL free agent Paul Bissonnette.

Maybe some of the other Hawks nominated will be able to make their mark a little more memorable.
