Dave Bolland Brings Stanley Cup Home to Toronto

Former Hawks center was dealt to Leafs in offseason

After winning the 2013 Stanley Cup championship, various members of the Chicago Blackhawks have been bringing the prized chalice all over the continent to their hometowns and various functions. Jonathan Toews brought it waterskiing in Winnipeg. Brandon Bollig brought it to Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Joel Quenneville brought it to a children’s hospital in Chicago.

On Thursday, the Cup made its way to the city of Toronto, its normal home, but it wasn’t at the Hockey Hall of Fame. It was actually accompanying center Dave Bolland, who brought it up to his hometown for his day with the Cup.

As you’ll recall, Bolland scored the Cup-winning goal in a flurry that saw the Hawks scored twice in 17 seconds in the late stages of Game 6:

As a reward, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in June, and so there was plenty of attention paid in the press up in Canada to his day with the Cup. The Toronto Sun even ran a special front page on Friday commemorating the occasion:

Despite the fact that the Maple Leafs have made several moves that fans of the team have questioned this offseason, including re-signing Tyler Bozak and using an amnesty buyout on Mikhail Grabovski, the newspaper decided to run the speculative headline that Bolland’s day with the Cup could be a preview of what the team will be doing next June.

Obviously, the Leafs’ new division mates the Detroit Red Wings will have a lot to say about that, but as for the Hawks, they’ll have to wait until October 19th when the Leafs visit the United Center to let their Original Six counterparts how they feel about the newspaper’s query.

Maybe it was just to get over the heartache of this happening:
