The Chicago Blackhawks will be heading outdoors again this season as they take on the Minnesota Wild at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and on Tuesday the team unveiled the jerseys that they will be wearing for the special game.

Before we get into the details, here is Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews modeling the new look:

Obviously, these jerseys are a bit different from what the Hawks have worn before, but there are reasons for each inclusion. The logos, which are featured on the sleeves instead of the shoulders, are intended as an homage to the team’s jerseys from the 1950’s.

The black shoulder design is also a deliberate inclusion, as it’s evocative of the “City of Big Shoulders” nickname that was given to the city of Chicago in a poem by Carl Sandburg.

There are also other minor adornments, including a set of four six-pointed stars that are an homage to Chicago’s flag.

Now that we’ve gotten all of the formalities out of the way, there’s one question that has to be asked: what do you think? Would you buy one of these jerseys, or are you still holding out hope that the team will bust out the barber pole jerseys at a future date?
