Ben Bishop Played With Torn Groin in Stanley Cup Final

The Chicago Blackhawks had a really difficult time figuring out how to beat Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop during the Stanley Cup Final, but on Monday night it was revealed just how excellent the netminder’s performance really was.

In Game 2 of the series, Bishop went down with an injury, leaving the ice surface twice in the game and allowing Andrei Vasilevskiy to get his first career playoff win. Bishop ultimately missed Game 4 as a result of the injury, and on Monday he revealed that he had been dealing with a torn groin muscle during the series.

Bishop wasn’t the only player dealing with an injury for the Bolts, as Tyler Johnson told the media that he had been playing with a broken wrist during the series.

“Guys had significant injuries, and it was clear,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “I’m sure you watched. It affected big parts of our team.”

While Johnson struggled to find his form offensively, Bishop seemed to roll with the punches well despite his limited mobility. In his final three appearances in the series, Bishop only allowed six goals and racked up an impressive .938 save percentage. It may not have been enough to help the Lightning to a victory, but it’s still a remarkable feat to play at such a high level with such a devastating and painful injury.
