Artemi Panarin Set to Represent Russia at World Championships

The Chicago Blackhawks may be looking forward to a summer off, but at least one of their players still has a bit more hockey left to play.

That player is Artemi Panarin, and he told reporters Wednesday that he will play for Team Russia in the upcoming IIHF World Championships.

Panarin, who scored 30 goals and dished out 47 assists during his rookie season with the Blackhawks, has played for Russia in the World Championships before, winning a silver medal with the team during the 2015 tournament. In 10 games the winger scored five goals and had five assists as Russia fell just short of winning gold.

It’s unclear how many other Blackhawks players will join Panarin at the World Championships, with the tournament set to begin on May 6 in Russia.
