Chicago Olympic Hopeful Wins Men's 200 at Prefontaine Classic

Wallace Spearmon won Saturday in the men's 200 sprint at the Prefontaine Classic

The race to London just got tougher.

Olympic hopeful Wallace Spearmon of Chicago, Ill. sprinted through the finish line sweeping up a first-place title in the men's 200 sprint during the Prefontaine Classic Saturday in Eugene, Ore.

The Prefontaine Classic was the second competition in the Visa Championship Series and third stop for the Samsung Diamond League, both a promising preview for track and field’s June Olympic Trials.

The Samsung Diamond League also featured Dawn Harper of East St. Louis, Ill. in its second event last Thursday in Rome after she finished first in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Olympic trials for track and field are set to be held June 22-25, where nearly 12 Midwestern hopefuls will race for their ticket to London.
