One person is confirmed dead following the midday collapse of a trench in Northwest Indiana.
The trench, at at 16731 Mount St., in Lowell, Ind., was being dug for a new sump pump for a nearby home, said Mike Higgins, the Public Information Officer for the Lake County (Ind.) Sheriff's Department. The trench was as much as 10 feet deep in some portions, Higgins said.
The sheriff's department could not confirm whether anyone else was trapped or injured.
