The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of abuse following the death of a 22-month-old girl in the southern Chicago suburb of Posen.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says Yvette Palacios was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey early Sunday morning.
The medical examiner's office said results of an autopsy Sunday were not available pending the outcome of a police investigation.
DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the agency was investigating Yvette's death as an allegation of death by abuse, but he noted that it had no prior contact with the family.
