Political sources believe that Chris Kennedy will make a "video announcement" Wednesday that he is a candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Kennedy -- son of Robert Kennedy -- runs the Merchandise Mart, and has never run for political office before.
Calls to the political consulting firm that is said to be already hired by Kennedy, AKP media (formerly owned by David Axelrod), have not been returned. It is not clear yet if he will say he is a candidate or announce he is starting an exploratory committee that will allow him to raise money.
Democrats are also anxiously awaiting to see what Attorney General Lisa Madigan will do -- whether she may run for governor or U.S. senator.
