16-Year-Old Found Dead in Lake

A ward of state was discovered in Lake Michigan yesterday

Chicago police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy whose body was found Tuesday afternoon in Lake Michigan.

Shaun King's body was discovered in Lake Michigan in the South Side’s Kenwood neighborhood, authorities said.

King was a ward of the state and lived at the Lawrence Hall Youth Services home at 4833 N. Francisco Ave.

The Chicago Fire Department and police Marine Unit found King’s body at about 2 p.m. in the water on the 5200 block of South Lake Shore Drive after responding to a report of a body in the water, according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks.

King was pronounced dead at about 9 p.m. at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
