Virgin America not only launched service Wednesday at O'Hare International Airport, but the edgy, low-fare air carrier also hooked up with Groupon to celebrate.
For one day only, Groupon offered $100 worth of round-trip air travel for $25 out of O'Hare between Chicago and San Francisco or Chicago and Los Angeles. Just before 2 p.m., only about 340 Groupons remained.
Tickets must be booked by June 30 for travel from June 1-June 15 or Sept. 6-Oct. 27.
The Chicago-based deals site isn't a stranger to Virgin America. The two companies partnered in February for the first air travel-based Groupon, and the tickets sold in minutes.
Virgin is expected to provide big competition for United and American, which provide a majority of flights. Besides its Groupon deal, Virgin also is launching a Chicago-to-California sale starting at $139 each way.
