Chicago Ideas Week Profiles: Defy Expectations: Lessons of Life and Entrepreneurship

Chicago Ideas Week is coming back once again, and the third time around we’re all hopefully more savvy about the event and what it offers. But nobody’s an expert, and nobody can possibly be expected to catch everything they’d want at the annual gathering of minds from multiple disciplines all over our city from Oct. 14 through Oct. 20. Here's some help.

The event: Defy Expectations: Lessons of Life and Entrepreneurship, brought to you by Defy Ventures. It's happening from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Morningstar, which is located at 22 W. Washington. You can purchase tickets for $15.

Who is speaking: Defy Ventures CEO Catherine Hoke.

Why you should care: Defy Ventures is a pretty incredible company. It takes people with criminal backgrounds and teaches them how to use their skills in a productive, business-minded way. Hoke will be joined by three of the company's entrepreneurs, and attendees will be able to hear some fascinating and inspiring stories. Not everyone has a history of crime under their belt, but we can all relate to the trial and error of the working world. You might just be able to learn something from Hoke and her colleagues.
