Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen used some big-time trickery to outfox the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon, and he made some NFL history in the process.
Late in the second quarter of the Bears’ 27-24 win over the Ravens, Cohen received a toss from Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the backfield. Cohen then lobbed a pass to the end zone, where Zach Miller came down with a 21-yard touchdown reception to give the Bears a 10-0 lead.
According to Pro Football Reference, Cohen’s touchdown pass was the first by a player 5-foot-6 or shorter since New York Giants tailback Wee Willie Smith accomplished the feat all the way back in 1934.
The touchdown pass was also the first by a Bears running back since Adrian Peterson hit Bernard Berrian for a nine-yard touchdown pass during the 2007 season.
The pass was also the second touchdown toss completed by a non-quarterback in the last two weeks, as punter Pat O’Donnell had a touchdown pass in the Bears’ Week 5 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
