Former Bears McCown, Gould Earn NFL Accolades

h#mce_temp_url# fans are suffering through another tough season, and two former players are helping rub salt into those wounds with their strong performances of late.

New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown, whom many fans hoped would be named the starter over Jay Cutler during his tenure in Chicago, was named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week, throwing for 331 yards as he continued his strong season for the New York Jets.

McCown also rushed for a one-yard touchdown as the Jets knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in a wild 38-31 game.

Another former Bears player also won Player of the Week honors from the NFL, and he did it against his former team. San Francisco 49’ers kicker Robbie Gould, who is the Bears’ all-time record holder for points scored, knocked in five field goals against the Bears at Soldier Field Sunday, earning himself NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his efforts.

Meanwhile, the Bears will be on their third kicker of the season this week, as Mike Nugent takes over for the injured Cairo Santos in that role.
