Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan may be getting a call from the league office after the brutal hit he put on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams on Thursday night.
The play occurred in the third quarter of the game, which saw the Packers beat the Bears 35-14. As Adams was being taken to the ground, Trevathan launched into him, striking the receiver with the crown of his helmet:
Adams was taken to a Green Bay hospital, where he reportedly has movement in his arms and legs after suffering head and neck injuries, as well as a possible concussion.
Even though Trevathan has not been suspended before, there is still a chance that he could be facing a punishment from the league. According to ESPN's Kevin Seifert, NFL owners voted over the offseason to allow suspensions of players for "egregious" hits even if they have never been suspended before.
Whether Trevathan's hit was egregious remains to be decided by the NFL, but he was assessed a 15-yard penalty on the play.
