Chicago Bears Sign John Timu to Active Roster

The Chicago Bears will be without linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski for the foreseeable future, and on Saturday they made a move to replace him.

The Bears, who will be looking for their first win of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers, signed John Timu off of their practice squad on Saturday, adding him back to the team that he has spent his first two NFL seasons with.

In 18 career games, Timu has 34 solo tackles for the Bears, with two fumble recoveries and one defended pass in those contests. He appeared in 11 games total for the Bears a season ago before being placed on the team’s practice squad after training camp this year.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Bears cut loose wide receiver Tre McBride from their active roster.

The Bears found themselves in need of linebacker depth after they lost Kwiatkoski to a pectoral injury. The team has said that the injury is not season-ending, but he’ll likely be out for an extended period as he tries to rehab it.
