Cruz, Shaw Among Big Name Players Cut by Bears

The Chicago Bears have set their 53-man roster, and some big names won't be donning the team's colors this year.

Wide receiver Victor Cruz is among the 37 players that will be salsa-dancing elsewhere this season. The receiver signed a one-year contract with the Bears this offseason, but will be cut loose after losing out on the starting slot receiver job to Kendall Wright.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez ended up making the team, meaning that the Bears will carry three quarterbacks into the regular season. That likely means Mitchell Trubisky will be made inactive on game days, as Mike Glennon will be the starter in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Finally, linebacker Pernell McPhee passed his physical and will come off the Physically Unable to Perform List.

A few high-profile players have also been placed on injured reserve, including linebacker Lamarr Houston, who injured his knee in the Bears' final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Quarterback Connor Shaw, also injured in the Cleveland game, was waived with an injury designation.

Injured Players:

-Connor Shaw, who suffered a hamstring injury in the Bears’ final preseason game, was cut with an injury designation.

-Lamarr Houston, who suffered a knee injury in the Bears’ final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, was placed on injured reserve.

-Offensive lineman Jordan Morgan was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

-Running back Ka’Deem Carey, thought to have a good shot at the Bears’ roster, was also placed on injured reserve.

-Wide receiver Cameron Meredith was placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in a game against the Tennessee Titans.

-Safety Chris Prosinski was also placed on injured reserve.

Players on Waivers:

K Roberto Aguayo

Aguayo was waived after being signed by the Bears to compete with Connor Barth for the starting kicker job. Aguayo, a 2016 second-round draft pick, was cut loose by Tampa Bay earlier this year and was claimed on waivers by the Bears.

LB Jonathan Anderson

Anderson was placed on waivers, but the Bears will hope to sign him to the practice squad if he clears, according to Brad Biggs.

OL Taylor Boggs

WR Daniel Braverman

DL Rashaad Coward

Coward was waived by the Bears, but could sign to the practice squad if he clears, according to Brad Biggs.

WR Alton Howard

LB Isaiah Irving

Brad Biggs also reports that the team will likely try to sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Reports indicate the team will likely try to sign him to their practice squad.
