Chicago Bears Release Earl Watford

Watford signed a one-year deal with the team earlier this year

The Chicago Bears have begun trimming their roster down ahead of the deadline next weekend, and offensive lineman Earl Watford was released by the team on Sunday.

Watford, who signed a one-year deal with the Bears earlier this year, was expected to compete for a roster spot on the team’s line, but with his departure several players could potentially benefit as they continue battling for a job with the team.

Players like Rashaad Coward, Eric Kush, and Bradley Sowell would all certainly fit that bill, as would Jordan Morgan.

The Bears have until Sept. 1 to get down to 53 players on their active roster, and they have yet to make determinations on starting positions at left guard, where James Daniels is expected to be the favorite along with Kush, and reserve positions on other parts of the line.
