Chicago Bears defensive standouts Eddie Jackson and Aaron Lynch both sat out of practice Wednesday as the team began preparations for their game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Jackson, who suffered an ankle injury in the team’s win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, is dealing with a sprained ankle, according to head coach Matt Nagy. A timetable on his return is unclear, but with the Bears locked into a playoff spot, they may proceed cautiously with their Pro Bowl safety.

Lynch suffered a sprained elbow during the same game, and his status for Sunday is also uncertain. He has three sacks and 16 tackles on the season, and has been an unheralded contributor to the team’s strong pass rush.
The 49ers had a long list of players limited in practice, including running back Matt Breida, cornerback K’Waun Williams, and safety Antone Exum.
Center Weston Richburg, linebacker Malcolm Smith, and safety Jaquiski Tartt all were limited in the workout as well for San Francisco. Linebacker Mark Nzeocha (groin) and tackle Joe Staley (non-injury) both were absent from the practice.
