Bears Assign Jersey Numbers to Draft Picks, Free Agents

Rookie David Montgomery will sport the number 32 in the coming season

While signing and drafting players is always a fun proposition for NFL teams and their fans, finding out the numbers that the new stars will wear is a close second.

On Wednesday, the Chicago Bears announced the new uniform numbers for a large group of their draft picks and free agent signings. Joking that there would be a test, the team announced the numbers on social media.

Running back David Montgomery, whom the Bears drafted in the third round of last weekend’s NFL Draft, will wear number 32 on his jersey for the coming year. Mostly recently worn by defensive back Deiondre’ Hall, the number has also belonged to Cedric Benson, Khalil Bell, and Senorise Perry, among others.

Fellow draft picks Riley Ridley and Kerrith Whyte Jr. have also gotten their new jersey numbers. Ridley, who wore the number 8 at Georgia, will wear number 88 for the Bears, and Whyte Jr. will sport the number 38 after wearing the number 6 at Florida Atlantic.

Free agent signing Mike Davis will wear the number 25 for the Bears, while wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson will keep his number 84 jersey. Cornerback Buster Skrine will wear the number 24 for Chicago, and safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will keep his familiar number 20.

The rest of the Bears’ draft class will get their numbers at a later date, according to the team.
