The Chicago Bears have some serious questions at cornerback right now, but they’ve reportedly made a step toward addressing those issues.
According to reports from the Chicago Tribune and Bear Report, the Bears have claimed cornerback K’Waun Williams off of waivers from the Cleveland Browns.
The cornerback was waived by Cleveland after being suspended for violating team rules during an argument about his health. He will have to pass a physical with the Bears in order for the waiver claim to be processed, as he’s been dealing with bone spurs in his ankle.
The Bears have been looking for help at the cornerback spot as their secondary has been decimated by injuries during the preseason. Kyle Fuller had an arthroscopic procedure done to investigate damage in his knee, and although he hasn’t been ruled out for Week 1, his status for the game has to be in doubt.
Tracy Porter also has been dealing with an injury, as he went into the league’s concussion protocol after taking a knee to the head in Saturday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Bryce Callahan has missed time as well, recuperating from a leg injury that he sustained during training camp.
Williams was the 42nd ranked cornerback in the NFL last season, according to Pro Football Focus. During the 2015 campaign he started six games for the Browns, defending two passes and forcing three fumbles on the season.
