Chicago Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks has escaped suspension after shoving an official and throwing his jersey and shoulder pads into the crowd during the team’s Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hicks was ejected from the game after the incident, but won’t be suspended by the NFL, as he will instead be fined $33,425, according to the league.
During the incident, Hicks was tangled up with Buccaneers guard Ali Marpet, and officials were working to separate them. Hicks then shoved an official in trying to get back to Marpet, and was tossed from the game as a result.
As he left the field, Hicks threw his jersey and shoulder pads into the Soldier Field crowd.
In four games this season, Hicks has three sacks and nine tackles, and has been one of the team’s biggest beneficiaries of the acquisition of Khalil Mack. He will be on the field next week when the Bears take on the Miami Dolphins on South Beach.
