Manti Te'o may have run himself out of the first round of the NFL Draft, and out of the Chicago Bears potential plans.
Te’o's 40-yard dash was less than impressive.
The middle linebacker clocked unofficial times of 4.81 and 4.80. He officially clocked in at 4.82 seconds. The Bears cover-2 scheme requires a fast middle linebacker to drop into coverage, and the combine stats may work against Te'o in that regard.
NFL.com lists 12 defensive linemen that ran at least a 4.81 in the same 40.
Another factor affecting Te’o’s stock in the draft is his unexpected weight loss. The linebacker measured 6-foot-2, 255 pounds playing at Notre Dame, but only measured in at 6-foot-1, 241 pounds this weekend.
