‘My Purpose Will Not be Denied': Teddy Bridgewater Releases Statement After Season-Ending Injury

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater won’t be on the field this season after suffering a torn ACL and a dislocated knee during practice earlier this week, but that setback isn’t impacting his optimism about his future.

In a statement issued through the Vikings, Bridgewater thanked his teammates and fans for their well-wishes after the injury, and he expressed his willingness to rise to the challenges that he is facing:

“I want to thank the Wilf family and the entire Vikings organization, all of my teammates, friends, Eric Sugarman, and the amazing Vikings athletic training staff and the fans who have sent me messages and wished me well. Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot to me and have helped me in this difficult time. There are great players and great leaders in our locker room who are going to fight to the end to reach the goals we set for 2016. I will be there mentally, physically, and in spirit to support them accomplishing these goals.”

“In order to have a testimony, you have to have a test. I come from amazing DNA, I watched my mom fight and win against breast cancer. We will, as a team, attack my rehab with the same vigor and energy. My faith is strong, my faith is unwavering, and my vision is clear. My purpose will not be denied.”

Bridgewater suffered his injuries during the team’s practice earlier this week. The injury was a non-contact one, but it was serious as he dislocated his knee and tore the ACL in that knee. According to physicians, the Vikings’ quick decision to send Bridgewater to the hospital likely saved his leg and his career.

The Chicago Bears will get their first look at the Vikings on Halloween, when the teams square off in a Monday Night Football battle at Soldier Field. They’ll meet again in the last game of the season, a New Year’s Day showdown at the Vikings’ new Bank of America Stadium.
