Green Bay Packerssafety Nick Collins is sorry for getting into a heated exchange with a fan at Soldier Field Monday.

"This is a situtation I could have walked away from , but, you know, heat of the moment," Collins said. "Both sides (were) out of line."

Collins allegedly lobbed his mouthpiece into the stands Monday night after an unruly Bears fan lobbed racial expletives his way and spit on Collins. The NFL and Bears are investigating the incident.

Collins' teammates insisted the fan crossed the line.

"This is a game where we go out here and we try to have fun playing it," said Packers wide receiver Donald Driver. " I think the fans are taking it too far when they start talking about you, your family. They don't know your family."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said the team is standing behind Collins "100 percent."

"I'm not that type of guy. I'm a laid-back, soft-spoken guy,"  Collins said.

The safety had plenty to be upset about. During the game he had what appeared to be a Jay Cutler interception called back because one of his teammates roughed the passer.
