Mel Tucker New Bears Defensive Coordinator: Report

Just two days after he was fired, the key roles in Marc Trestman's staff are reportedly filled.

CBS' Jason LaCanfora reported Friday that the Bears hired former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach Mel Tucker.

In his time with the Jaguars, Tucker served as both the defensive coordinator and briefly, the head coach. He took over after Jack Del Rio was fired in 2011. He also has worked for Cleveland and at Ohio State.

He's highly respected around the league, and is a young up-and-comer who gives a different feel to Trestman's staff.

Tucker's biggest job will to be not to mess with what already works on the Bears' defense. They were ranked third overall, and had the league leaders in interceptions and forced fumbles. Trestman was hoping to keep Rod Marinelli, who had led the defense, but he decided not to stay.

Trestman has an offensive background, giving the defensive position even more importance. Tucker joins special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis and offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer.
