Lovie's Contract Extended

Welcome to two more years of Lovie on the sidelines.

Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith has signed on with the team through the 2013 season.

There's no immediate word on salary, though Smith has been expected to keep making around $5.5 million, which is what he's scheduled to earn in 2011. That puts him among the league's Top 10 coaches in pay.

This season the Bears snagged the NFC North title under Smith's direction, though the team fell short of the Super Bowl during a rival game against the Green Bay Packers.

Smith's contract extension comes at a pretty good time as NFL owners and players work out a collective bargaining agreement by the March 4 deadline.

Smith is expected to discuss the extension this morning.
