Jared Allen Traded to Carolina Panthers

The Chicago Bears are in the process of a rebuilding project, and they took another step in the direction of an overhaul Monday as they traded outside linebacker Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers.

The trade, which was first reported by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer and later confirmed by the Bears, sends the former Pro Bowl defensive star to a team with serious playoff aspirations, as the Panthers sit at 3-0 and are in prime position to win an NFC South crown.

Allen played just 31 snaps for the Bears in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and he did not speak to the media after the game.

"We had some depth at the linebacker position and were able to reach an agreement with the Panthers to bring a 2016 draft pick to our team in exchange for Jared Allen," G.M. Ryan Pace said in a statement. "Whether it is acquiring additional picks or signing players, we will continue to be aggressive in finding ways to improve our football team."

"We appreciate Jared's contributions and wish him the best in Carolina," Pace added.
