Marshall Released From Hospital, Placed on Injured Reserve by Bears

In a case of “good news, bad news,” Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall was released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday, and the team also placed him on the injured reserve list, ending his 2014 season on Monday afternoon.

Marshall, who suffered two fractured ribs and a collapsed lung when he was kneed in the back by Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church during Thursday’s game, was taken to the hospital during halftime of the contest.

The wide receiver, who signed a three-year contract extension with the team during the offseason, caught 61 passes for 721 yards and eight touchdowns for the Bears this year. He was also the subject of plenty of controversy off the field, with a locker room spat and a confrontation with a fan on the internet all swirling around him as the Bears stumbled out of playoff contention.

Marshall’s role will be filled in the lineup by Marquess Wilson, who missed the first nine games of the regular season with a fractured clavicle that he suffered during training camp.
