7-Foot-Tall Ditka Bobblehead Comes to Millennium Park

Editor's note: NBC 5 will have continued live coverage from Grant Park throughout the day Sept. 5. Tune in live here.

Da Coach is larger than life - literally.

Starting Friday, a 7-foot tall Mike Ditka bobblehead will stand in Millennium Park honoring the beloved Bears coach ahead of the team’s 100th season.

The installation will be in place near the Washington Street entrance Friday through Monday. It will then be moved to Soldier Field ahead of the Sept. 5 season opener vs. Green Bay.

The bobblehead is one of 13 that will be appearing around the city throughout the Bears’ centennial season.

It is made out of “high-density foam” and weighs between 150-200 pounds. And yes, the head bobbles.

Ditka was the first tight end inducted in the Hall of Fame and went on to guide the team to its only Super Bowl victory.
