Kevin Jeanes is the weekend morning meteorologist for NBC 5.
He was born in raised in the Chicago suburbs and graduated from Neuqua Valley High School. Kevin graduated from Eastern Illinois University with degrees in geography and communications, and minors in broadcast meteorology and earth sciences. He obtained his National Weather Association Seal of Approval in 2011.
Prior to returning home to Chicago, Kevin worked as the weekday morning meteorologist for five years at WXYZ in Detroit, where he earned multiple Emmys for “Best Meteorologist”.
Before moving to Detroit, Kevin was Chief Meteorologist at KOLD in Tucson, Arizona. While in Arizona he met his wife, Lisa. Forecasting during the monsoon season was exciting, but he really wanted to return to the more active weather in the Midwest.
Kevin’s first commercial TV job was the weekend morning meteorologist at WWBT in Richmond, Virginia. Virginia has a variety of weather and terrain; offering him opportunities to forecast everything from blizzards to hurricanes.
While at Eastern Illinois University, Kevin forecasted and presented weather reports on WEIU-TV, a PBS affiliate in the Champaign/Decatur market. He was nationally recognized by the Broadcaster Education Association for three consecutive years. He also worked nearly every day at the EIU Weather Center and provided COOP reports to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.
Kevin is a huge Chicago sports fan and he has two children, Eddie and Evelyn with his wife, Lisa.
