Chicago Cubs Announce Spring Training Invitees

Several veterans will compete for jobs as the Cubs gather in Arizona

The Chicago Cubs have invited a total of 27 non-roster players to spring training this year as they begin their preparations for the 2019 season.

The Cubs, who lost in the National League Wild Card Game to the Colorado Rockies last season, invited a total of 14 pitchers and 13 position players to their camp in Mesa, Arizona, which is set to begin next week.

Several veterans will be heading to camp with hopes of making the team, including pitchers George Kontos and Junichi Tazawa. Infielder Cristhian Adames and catcher Francisco Arcia were also among those to receive an invitation.

Automakers use events like the Chicago Auto Show to gauge interest from buyers as to what’s hot and what’s not on the car market, and occasionally those concept cars can become a reality. NBC 5’s Kye Martin has the story.

Here is the full list of players:

Pitchers: Alberto Baldonado, Christian Bergman, Craig Brooks, Matt Carasiti, Ian Clarkin, George Kontos, Dakota Mekkes, Carlos Ramirez, Colin Rea, Duncan Robinson, Rob Scahill, Junichi Tazawa, Allen Webster, Mike Zagurski

Infielders: Cristhian Adames, Ryan Court, Phillip Evans, Trent Giambrone, Zack Short

Outfielders: Jim Adduci, Charcer Burks, Johnny Field, Jacob Hannemann, Evan Marzilli

Catchers: Francisco Arcia, P.J. Higgins, Ian Rice

The Cubs’ pitchers and catchers will report to Arizona on Wednesday, Feb. 13, with the full squad set to arrive by Feb. 18.
