Friday Storm Leaves 38k Without Power

ComEd crews work on a utility pole on Terra Cotta Road near Seybrooke Lane in Crystal Lake.

A brief but powerful storm Friday morning left about 38,500 customers without electricity, with the hardest area hit being the city of Chicago.

"As of noon, we have 38,500 customers without power due to the storm that rolled in this morning," ComEd spokesman Antonio Hernandez said.

The breakdown, according to Hernandez:

  • 15,300 in the city and near west suburbs
  • 11,800 in the north suburbs
  • 6,800 in the west suburbs
  • 4,500 in the western suburbs

"We have 359 crews deployed," Hernandez said. "We are working to restore these outages just as quickly and safely as possible."

Hernandez said a time-frame for restoration was not immediately available.
