Unseasonably Cool Weekend Ahead

The Chicago area’s first real taste of Autumn is underway, with temperatures feeling more like October

    The Chicago area’s first real taste of Autumn is underway, with temperatures feeling more like October.

    Friday and Saturday will see unseasonably cool temperatures in the 60s, droppings as low as the 40s into the night.

    The weekend will be overcast, windy and cool, with periods of rain and lake effect showers.

    Conditions will warm up for Sunday’s Bears opener, bringing sunshine and a high of 69 degrees.

    And it will continue to warm up from there, bringing back summer highs back in the low 80s for the early work week:

    Friday: Cloudy with light to moderate showers this morning; an isolated thunderstorm possible. Mostly cloudy, windy and unseasonably cool this afternoon with occasional scattered showers; an isolated storm possible in NW Indiana.. Highs in the low to mid 60s in most areas. Wind: N/NE 15 to 25 with gusts to near 30 mph will create large waves along the shore of Lake Michigan with strong rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions. Stay out of the water today! A Cold Air Funnel will be possible over the open waters of the lake.

    Friday Night: Moslty cloudy with periods of lake effect showers, isolated storms possible; windy and chilly. Mid to upper 40s well inland, warming to the upper 50s in the city. Wind: N 15 to 25 mph.

    Saturday: Mostly cloudy, continued breezy and quite cool for the season with lake effect showers likely here and in NW Indiana. The rain could be moderate at times. Only a few isolated showers possible inland. Highs in the low to mid 60s. Wind: N 10 to 20 mph. A Cold Air Funnel will still be possible over the lake.

    Sunday: Mostly sunny and quite chilly in the morning, becoming breezy and a little milder with sunny skies in the afternoon for the Bears game. Highs in the upper 60s. Wind: WSW 5-15 mph.

    Monday: Mostly sunny, breezy and pleasant. Highs in the mid 70s.

    Tuesday: Mostly sunny, breezy and even milder. Highs in the upper 70s to 80º.

    Wednesday: Mostly sunny, windy, warmer and more humid. Highs in the low 80s. Becoming cloudy with showers and storms possible overnight.

    Thursday: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
