Thunderstorms Head Toward Chicago

Break out your umbrellas

Chicago and its suburbs are about to get wet.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a number of Chicago area counties including Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Lake, Kendall and Lasalle.

Heavy rains and lightning will threaten the area until 9:00 p.m. tonight as storms move eastward from Iowa into Northern Illinois.

Scattered thunderstorms could produce wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, the service says.

The conditions could create a tricky commute.
