It's happened.
The first snowfall of the season was recorded Wednesday at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
For about 25 minutes, beginning shortly before 2 p.m., flurries were seen flying at the northwest side airport, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Nelson.
There was no accumulation, and Nelson said the snow was not a big surprise.
Actually, the date is a bit late when compared to the Chicago average. The average date for the first snowfall is Oct. 30, with Sept 25 being the earliest.
The latest ever first snowfall -- an inch or more -- happened on Jan. 17, 1899, Nelson said.

There still might be a couple more snowflakes Wednesday evening as another quick system moves out of the region tomorrow. There’s a 30 percent chance of a mixture of rain and a snow shower, but still no accumulation.
The weekend looks milder with partial sun and highs in the low to mid-50s. A few showers are likely on Sunday.
