Rain, Thunderstorms Move in Ahead of Monday Morning Commute

Thunderstorms and rain showers doused portions of north and northwest Illinois early Monday morning, less than a week after devastating tornadoes hit the area.

The morning rain and thunderstorms dampened debris piles in Fairdale, Illinois where residents were still recovering from an EF-4 tornado that killed two people and left many others injured.

Scattered thunderstorms were reported across the Chicago area Monday morning, threatening to make for a messy morning commute.

The rain was expected to continue until the late morning hours, particularly in areas south of interstates 88 and 290.

Lightning and heavy downpours were possible, but the weather did not look to be severe.

Temperatures Monday were forecast to rise into the mid-60s with conditions improving throughout the day.

Things look to stay dry Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance for more wet weather Thursday and Friday.
