Navy Pier Closed, Guests Told to Seek Shelter Amid Severe Weather

Navy Pier was closed Wednesday evening and the AON Summer Fireworks show canceled as guests were told to shelter in place due to severe weather in the Chicago area. 

"Due to severe storm conditions and exceptionally strong winds tonight’s Navy Pier will be closed to the public and AON Summer Fireworks show have been cancelled," officials said in a statement. "As always, the safety and comfort of every guest is Navy Pier’s top priority and we appreciate the public’s understanding to ensure a fun and safe evening at Navy Pier."

Guests at the pier were instructed to shelter in place at the Navy Pier tornado shelter stations, according to officials.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the area until 9:45 p.m. and a Tornado Watch was in effect until 1 a.m.
