NWS: Tornado Confirmed in Northern Jasper County Sunday

The National Weather Service said Monday that a brief tornado hit part of Jasper County in Indiana during Sunday’s storms.

The NWS said video confirmed a brief tornado hit northern Jasper County, a few miles north-northwest of DeMotte.

Officials said a second video showed a tornado from a different vantage point around the same, but it was not clear if that was a second tornado or the same was.

There were no reports of major damage in the area, but officials expect to have more details Tuesday.

The storms prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Tornado Warnings across the area Sunday.

Some areas saw hail the size of quarters while others had wind damage that uprooted trees.

Between 1.5 and 4 inches of rain fell across areas south of I-80, which caused flooding in several locations.

Flood Advisories remained in effect for several counties until 10 a.m. Monday.

More storms, some possibly severe, were expected to move into parts of the Chicago Monday afternoon.
