If you can escape the lights of Chicago, you're in for a spectacular show in the skies this weekend.
Hundreds of meteors will light up the sky as part of the annual Perseid meteor shower.
The meteors will be visible starting Saturday night through early Tuesday, with the shower likely peaking Sunday into Monday.
Montrose Beach and Northerly Island will extend their hours to let star-gazers catch a glimpse from city skies. The show likely will be best from the suburbs, though, and the Adler Planetarium is taking advantage of it.
The planetarium hosts a viewing party from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, in Wheaton. Activities include scavenger hunts, telescope viewing and stargazing,
Spring Valley Nature Center & Heritage Farm also hosts a viewing party from 9-11 p.m. Saturday at the park at 201 S. Plum Grove Road, in Schaumburg
