“Life Threatening Waves” Possible in Lake Michigan Tuesday

Forecasters on Tuesday warned of "life threatening waves and currents" at some Chicago-area beaches along Lake Michigan.

The National Weather Service in Chicago issued a Beach Hazards Statement for dangerous swimming conditions in Lake Michigan from Lake and Cook counties in Illinois to Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. The alert is in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Officials warn of waves between 3 and 5 feet and strong rip and structural currents.

“People visiting the beaches should stay out of the water,” the statement reads.
