How to Prepare Your Home for Winter Weather

Winter is right around the corner and this means the potential for snow, ice, sleet and extreme cold.

It is important to be prepared before a storm arrives.  We all have a lot going on day in and day out, so keeping it simple is the best way to prepare.

Make sure you have all of the necessary items in case you are stuck without power for several days at a time.

You need batteries and a flashlight and make sure they are in an easy place to find in case it is dark.

A battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio is very important to have, so you can get the latest warnings during an event.

If you are stranded for several days, you want to have extra food, preferably non-perishable food items. You also want to have an extra stock of water.

Think about your babies, pets, etc. and have the necessary items for them to be safe for several days without being able to go out of the house.

Do you have a generator? An extra heat source is helpful just in case you have nothing to back up the power.
