Thanks to a squirrel, several homes of part-time residents, from Niles to Deerfield, are more secure during the winter months.

Several years ago, the critter got into a house in Morton Grove, near Rich Pellicano's home, while the homeowners were out of town and used it as a playground. The squirrel ruined furniture, broke dishes and other fragile items, and ripped curtains.
