Chicago's Overnight Winter Parking Ban Begins Thursday

Drivers beware: Chicago's overnight winter parking ban will begin Thursday along roughly 107 miles of city streets.

The overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 3 to 7 a.m. beginning Thursday and ending April 1, 2017. Violators can face a $150 towing fee, a $60 ticket and a $20 storage fee charge per day of storage.

The city said motorists can avoid violations by checking street signage.

"During a snow storm it is critical that crews are able to plow and salt Chicago's main streets. This helps us restore the city to normal as quickly as possible, and ensures that buses can access routes to take passengers to work, school and along their daily routines," Commissioner Charles Williams said in a statement. "Residents can assist us in this effort by checking signs and following posted restrictions."

The first day of the parking ban is often met with frustration for drivers whose vehicles are towed.

In 2014, more than 230 vehicles were towed on the first day of the ban.
